From 80 mile beach we decided to take the inland route south via a track through abandoned mining settlement Shay Gap to Marble Bar, Newman and Meekatharra but it was not to be! First we met the swollen tidal De Gray river past Shay Gap and had to turn back to the highway and then take the Marble Bar Road. After having fantastic sausage rolls at Pardo roadhouse, we reached Marble Bar, the hottest town in Australia, with no problems and only minor river crossings...
