After Kununurra we head on to Wyndham, where Avan used to work many years ago in the meat works. We stopped off on the way for a swim in the Grotto, a secluded swimming pool surrounded by cliff face with a waterfall when it rains. Very popular with meat workers in the 70's.
When we arrived at Wyndham we were surprised to find little of the meat works remained. We stopped into the wharf pub, with good timing as we were there for a XXXX (Qld Beer) promotion and were shouted some free samples. The person running the promotion turned out to be Annie Listers brother (Annie and Morrie lived in Wyndham when Avan was there) and the publican was a rellie of Rod Patroni the butcher in Dongara.
After Wyndham we took the King River then Gibb River roads down to Derby. Unfortunately, owing to the coming wet, most of the roads to the sights were closed and on a couple of times when it started to rain, we elected to move on to avoid being bogged in.
