Our youngest daughter Shashana, had been bantering for some time for us to do something special with her and take a break from work. We had also been discussing for some time that the worlds largest monolith Mt Augustus was practically on our doorstep. So we decided to make a long weekend of it and include Coral Bay in our excursion.
Coral Bay is a special place in its own right, one of the few places in the world where one can enjoy swimming on a coral reef from a mainland without a boat trip. While it was the wrong season for us it is also one of the few places in the world where you can snorkel with whale sharks. December is often a very windy time on the west coast and Coral Bay was no exception but being semi locals (it's windy in Dongara too) it didn't dampen our enthusiasm to have a great time.
We arrived late so after a fantastic feed at Finns (a little local restaurant) we hit the sack. The next morning Shashana had us up and was keen to get into the days adventures. We had a fun filled day snorkeling on the reef and simply walking along the beach enjoying the bird and fish life. Shashana hired a portable hooker contraption from the on beach caravan which enabled her to effectively scuba dive on the reef, taking a stack of photo's with her little disposable. To finish the day Avan & Shahshana hired a glass bottomed kayak and battled the wind and tide to row across the reef.
That night we dined at the Reef another local icon eatery and crashed ready for the next days drive to Mt Augustus.
