Next morning when we arose we were greeted with the approach to the popular Malaysian resort island of Langkowi. The view from the Virgo was picture perfect with small deserted tropical islands dotting the calm waters as we sailed toward Langkowi's jetty. The jetty was quite long and more prestigious looking than the one we docked at in Phuket.
Once we had disembarked we shunned the offers of transport and walked into town. The town area was far less boisterous than Phuket and the hawkers less in your face which made our walk far more pleasant. After a good look around town we wandered down to the beach and walked it's full length, then sat and enjoyed the sun until it was time to return to the Virgo. While we were approached a couple of time's on the beach it certainly was not the full on "you buy" banter of other Asian destinations.
Well it was back to the boat for the final leg to Singapore, and while it was a very short holiday the fact that so much was available and combined with the night life on the Virgo it did seem a much longer break. All in all a very welcome break from the real world and far removed from the horror of 9/11 even though it was constantly at the back of the mind.
