Getting back on the coastal route we arrive for a short stay in Savannah which from the off we see it is a very easy and relaxed city with beautiful landscape and scenery. Again, I don't think this part of the east coast is really touched much by people like us, it seemed a very locals local areas, it doesn't seem to have many attractions to draw them in, however the surroundings our stunning and definitely worth the visit.
We seem to be flying along the east coast a lot quicker than we anticipated, which is good and bad, if we have made up some days and miles it's a bonus but I worry we have missed some gems. The drive from Roanoke to Savannah is only 6 hours passing though South Carolina and when we are living and sightseeing 24/7 we are finding getting from place to place a lot easier than expected.
We choose not to stop in South Carolina, I'm sure we have missed some amazing places which makes me sad but the truth is is that we can't see every single pretty town, city, beach and lake along the coast (which Paul keeps reminding me) . The Eastern coast main highway runs on the left side from any of the major places so to visit anywhere you must come off the highway and then back on the highway when leaving and so on, this is something we cannot keep doing due to our mileage limit so we must select wisely :( , whereas, on the Western coast the 101 north highway runs right along the coast which passes you through all points of interest, which is a bonus.
One of the main downers of the van is by far our mileage limit (100 miles per day collectively over the 4 months rental), we have to keep a check on it, cut down and be wary of it all the time. Already having cut out a corner of our trip (Toronto and Montreal); in hindsight it would've been a good idea to have added the unlimited mileage but the price tag on that was a stinger and I don't think I could've handled anymore Pall Sunday overtime.
This minor issue aside, everything is going really well. We are coping, planning and getting on far better than I ever hoped. Without much of a plan at the beginning, which I think is the best way; we arrive in one place and then research the next part of the journey and its working really good and without stress. Our expenditure we have slashed by nearly half, so we are pretty proud of that, the stock up of sausage wieners and excessive pasta meals has paid off :) Sure, we both have our off days but as a whole, we are loving it and time is flying by far too quickly, bring on the Sunshine State of Florida!! :)
