Crossing into Florida State everything seemed to quickly change. Palm trees greeting us from the interstate and after coming through from Georgia which seem to be quite vast, Florida was built up, buzzing and just what we expected. Cruiser bikes, palm trees, turtles, joggers in tiny shorts, rollerblades and ...its got hotter, again!!! This is the hottest heat so far, it's been trumped again, sun cream, slides right off us (yes, gross!).
Best beach in north eastern Florida said to be Atlantic Beach in Atlantic beach city Jacksonville, we check it out for the day to walk along the front and generally frazzle ourselves and ponce around in the sea. With a massive great stretch of the sea and white sand we could walk along as far as we liked with our feet in the warm sea water. It is an absolutely stunning beach and its really nice to see the water again after travelling through the North for the last month.
The sea felt like a heated swimming pool but tasted saltier than McDonald's chips so it was pretty awesome. Going for a mozie along the shore we spot something that looked like a small shark, 3-4 ft long just in the wave barrel really close to us, by all means it could have been a large fish but the shape looked like a tiny shark but shark sounds cooler so we'll go with that. Paul decides to make the lifeguard aware; apparently they are common yet harmless, pretty cool to see, even if it was a split second viewing...and probably a large fish. We had only been in the sea an hour prior pretty happy i didn't see it then, Paul would have screamed like a girl and probably jumped on my back.
Atlantic Beach itself is cool, clean with a chilled out atmosphere in the day and evening full of packed restaurants and quirky outside bars.
Seems to be that anywhere we go in the USA we still seem to be a target for homeless people asking us for money, we have grown to really hate this. If we stop in the wrong surroundings we can get asked three times on the bounce, some people pleasant some not so much; saying that we haven't responded to it at all other than "we don't carry cash" , if they asked for food; which they never do; that would be ok, as long as they like sausage wieners :) Feel harsh but if we gave to all we would be doing the exact same thing ourselves, I guess they see a flashy rented van and visualize dollar signs, not from us close fisted English people.
