Canyon number 3!! We were slightly concerned that we wouldn't appreciate the Grand Canyon now we have already seen three beforehand, but we were thankfully wrong. The overwhelming volume of the canyon was unbelievable. After much umm'ing and arr'ing whether to drive there check it out ourselves or to do a tour we decided to drive in and save some money. We choose to see the canyon from the south rim, the more popular, commercial area and apparently with much better views. My preference was to see the West Rim side, for the reason that it wouldn't be so commercial but along with that its said to also be very expensive. The South Rim side of the Grand Canyon is part of the National Park where as the West rim owned by the Hualapai Tribe Nation, the Hualapai Indians side also famous for their self-built 'Skywalk'.
We spent two days at the National park with day one checking out the viewing places and points of interest and our second day we choose to squeeze in another hike. There were plenty to choose from, we went for the Cedars Points Kaibab Trail. This trail switch backed roughly 3miles down the canyon, with more great viewing points and photo opportunities. The trail was popular for mules rides that are offered here, so evidently this lead to a lot of do do dodging on the trail. The trail can be continued all the way down the canyon to the Colorado river when a permit is purchased, also requires an overnight stay on the hike down so we wouldn't be doing that, however, I can imagine it's amazing.
The Grand Canyon did not disappoint. The only down fall is that we found it absolutely impossible to capture it within a photo. As a first time trip to the Canyon I think the South Rim was our best choice but if we are ever lucky enough to see it a second time we will check out the Indian Territory.
