Saturday was spent having a long lie in to recover from the week. I then went in search of a decent cup of coffee. Every one I'd tried so far had been foul black treacle with the oddest taste. At last, a proper cup of fresh coffee was located at the Cafe Central, so I had to have 3 of them. I also located a supermarket (not on the scale of Sainsburys) and spent a fortune on a jar of Nescafe so that I can drink it at the guesthouse.
Saturday evening there was a pub crawl planned with the local hostel and a group of girls from here were going. I had every good intention of staying for a couple but ended up eating a massive plate of $1 chicken fried rice at 3am.......it beats a kebab any day.
Sunday afternoon 7 of us had booked a cookery lesson, which was amazing. We each had to choose a starter and a main course and then we did a group pudding.
I made fresh chicken spring rolls and chicken amok. We had to prepare everything from scratch, including the paste for the amok curry and the banana leaf dish. It took about 3 hours and then we all sat downstairs in the restaurant and ate the tons of food. The dessert was a kind of tapioca with bananas and coconut cream, which was lovely.
Late afternoon/eraly evening every day we have a downpour and sometimes a storm. Sunday we had an electrical storm that lasted a couple of hours. The result being that we had no power for hours, which meant no a/c or internet. A few of us went to a nearby bigger hotel which had a generator for a drink and to cool down.
More about the kids next time.
