Today we left the Peaks district and drove south to Duxford in Cambridgeshire. We visited the Imperial War Museum there which is at the the Duxford Airfield. First we had lunch and then went into the first hanger which was full of planes, old and new, there was even one called the Canberra. We got to walk through a Concorde, and it was not what I thought it would be. I thought it would be much longer and wider. The one we went in was a test plane and had some of the test equipment still on board to see. We were not allowed to go into the cockpit, but got to see everything else.
Then we had a go in the simulator which had us in a German Messerschmitt bomber chasing a British spitfire over the White Cliffs of Dover. Lucky for our side that we lost the air battle and we flew back to Germany without the other planes.
We went to the American hanger and it had a B52 bomber which was huge and also the Blackbird which looked like a flathead. Then we went to the Land Battle hanger which was full of Tanks and guns etc. Half way through there was a black out and we had to leave and did not get to go back which disappointed mum and dad. We got to look at the Battle of Britain hanger which was ok, but not as interesting.
Darcy bought some things in the shop and then we went to our hotel in Stanstead and I had the hugest Spaghetti bol ever. The next morning we drove to Kent.
