Today we visited two castles and wandered around Deal with Tracey and Mick. We parked at Walmer Castle and walked into Deal and had a hot cho on the Pier and then went to the High Street (Main shopping Street) to have a look around. They are castles but more like forts.
then we visited Deal Castle which was built by Henry VIII along with a few others nearby to keep the French out of England. It is the shape of the Tudor Rose and looks like petals. The rooms are round and it had lots of circular corridors which seemed to go nowhere. Then we walked back to Walmer Castle and visited it. It was similar but with only four petals rather than five which Deal had. It is the base for the Lord Warden of the Cinque (five) Ports and one of our ex PMs used to be one, Robert Menzies. The one before the one now was the Queen Mother. They have built a house within the fort which is still used today. The first Lord Warden was the Duke of Wellington.
The Gardens at Walmer were lovely and we even got to play croquet. They had a huge veggie garden which they call a kitchen garden in the UK, and a green house which had a section with some Australian plants.
After that we went home and had another delicious big meal and the dessert was the best ever - you can see it in the photo. I got to have the huge Eeyore tonight
