We left Standstead and drove to Dover and visited the Castle there. The drive took ages because of the traffic but we eventually got there and had a great day. We started off in the old part and worked our way through the castle's history which started with the Romans and ended not so long ago.
The Medieval part was pretty amazing and it had lots of levels, rooms, tunnels etc to explore. Some of it was set up to look like it would have in the olden days when the Kings were there. I had a scone for lunch which was great. We then went to the Roman tower/lighthouse and old Saxon church which is still used today (the church, not he lighthouse). They were doing some renovations so there was scaffolding going up. On the floor were large stones with people's names on them showing who was buried where.
Then we walked around the wall past the new barracks and visited the First World War area. Then we went to the Second World War bit which were mainly tunnels. First we went into the hospital tunnels and then alter on we went through the war rooms which were deeper. It took about an hour and you went through where they made the big decisions about the evacuation of Dunkirk and later the D Day landings. Mum and Dad really enjoyed it.
Then we drove to Tracey and Mick's house in Deal and had a huge dinner of Lasagne and then strawberries, meringue and ice cream. We had so much food, it was delicious. Tracey Is my Aunty Kerry's sister who is married to Dads brother Polly. She had so many Eeyore's and Darcy and I took it turns to sleep with the huge one.
