We went to Avebury which was like a really big Stonehenge and had a village built within and around it. You could walk all the way around and get really close to stones. On our way to Avebury we stopped on the side of the road to see the Avenue which was two rows of stones running all the way to town. We also saw a Whitehorse on the hillside but could not stop because of the narrow road and we had a car behind us.
We had dinner at the Red Lion pub and then went to West Kennett to see the Long Barrow on top of a hill. Darcy got swooped by a swallow which was nesting in the barrow. The bodies have been removed and people go there to place offerings, there was even a half eaten sandwich - not sure why the spirits/gods would want that!
After that we headed home to Bristol and saw another white horse and a big monument on a hill so we stopped and took some photos.
It was a huge day but a very good one. We got home late but still had room to have bit of Myee's delicious butter chicken before going to bed.
