Good flight, food was decent, the red wine was delicious, the sleep was non-existent.
We landed in the pitch black at 6am, sunset apparently isn’t until 7am.
Everything was super super quick getting through customs, and our bags were waiting for us when we got to the belt. Now just to find the KLIA Ekspress train and figure out which package was better for us to do with the trains and getting a transfer back to the airport on Thursday.
We must have been the first flight to arrive, the airport was empty. We were both like walking zombies, Ellie had managed an hour or two but nothing substantial.
Fingers crossed the hotel would allow us to check in before the usual timing, they usually do in most places.
After trudging through the train stations and through the sweaty ass streets to the hotel we discovered the no, they do not allow early check in so we have to wait until 12pm. Bloody great! I could barely keep my eyes open let alone walk around the city for four hours but we had no choice.
Barely talking to each other because we were so tired, first stop was breakfast - Malaysian style breakfast of course! That meant street food from the famous Jalan food street and Asian greens in garlic and Asian prawn noodles to share, surprisingly my taste buds were quite fancying it at 8am in the morning.
We had a walk around made it to the Petronas towers and found a cool food street walk, Ellie’s mouth still watering for some food not sure where this girl puts it! We couldn’t walk anymore so we went back to sit in the hotel reception because they still wouldn’t let us check in and the women on reception was a miserable git, don’t tell me that every room is fully booked and they need to clean them. So I fell asleep on the sofa and made myself at home by taking my shoes off, I knew that would get her attention to tidy us up and get us in a room. We can’t be making the place look untidy.
The room was a box room we could barely put our bags down. Although I’m not sure I wanted to after seeing a few cockroaches climbing in the shower and into the hairdryer hole on the wall. I went back down to complain and she reluctantly gave me another room. She could barely stop herself from rolling her eyes at me.
No cockroaches in the room opposite- yet! So we settled, although Ellie was a little uneasy I could tell, I’m used to the cockroaches from dubai now lol.
We had a much needed shower and a much needed nap! Sparked out for a few hours before we headed back out to watch the Wales v Georgia rugby match in a sports bar and then for food and petronas towers by night. The place was so different to Sri Lanka, much wealthier and westernised as they would say.
Street food for dinner was on the cards! Because it’s all so damn good!!
I’m using the excuse of ‘I’m jet lagged’ for the reason of me sleeping so late. 10 and a half hours, I must have needed it after no sleep the night before!
It was a s*** hole of a hotel but the beds were comfy I’ll give them that.
A quick whip around and we were up for the day, breakfast or more like lunch at the city walk we went through yesterday. We had the best prawn laska soup with crab dumplings and a super nice juice for about £4. It was probably up there with one of the best meals we have had, it was so tasty!!
We walked loads, as usual! Through the (what was supposed to be) eco forest by the sky tower but couldn’t quite find much in there because everything was broken or under maintenance, then we went over to little India but couldn’t really find much there only some sari stores and Indian restaurants (it was just like a normal road). Then we got to china town on the train, a little more like a china town! They get everywhere I must say. But just like I remembered from last time, lots of shop stalls and food stalls but the central market was open and even prettier inside with not just knock offs but textiles and saris and all things nicey nice.
Time for a beer before we head back to get ready for a cheeky evening on a helipad. Only before we could shower I found a little friend on the bed... a cockroach. So I complained to reception and again the eye rolling so I laid into them a little about how disgusting it was here and she found us another room only we weren’t 1st time lucky but 3rd time lucky because she kept showing me rooms that had big fat cockroaches climbing up the wall in them, it’s not rocket science to realise that they have a cockroach infestation but we only had two more nights and if I found another one I would be asking for our money back because it’s disgusting. We weren’t paying much but f***ing hell don’t charge so little if you cant afford to maintain and clean the building. 0.0 rating on booking . Com, they’re going to get an absolute lashing!!
Anyways, we were going to a helibar tonight! It’s in some random building with a bar at the top decorated with all plane parts and the dj stand made from the engine turbo, we bought a drink here (happy hour Long Island iced tea cocktails for £5!) and a then went up to the helipad were they just had chairs and tables overlooking a 360 degree view of KL overlooking the sky tower and petronas towers. Cheap cheap cheap is what we like and so much better than paying through the nose to go up the towers and see nothing but a load of high buildings that don’t mean anything. Such a pretty night!!
Day 3 in the big city, I was ‘jet lagged’ again. Another solid 11 hours in the bed! Ellie was not impressed about me not being able to get up I don’t think haha. I just grunt when I’ve just woke up I can’t string any words together or hardly open my eyes lol.
Still no cockroaches in the room - result!!
Batu caves this afternoon, after we had breakfast/brunch, roast duck in a noodle soup for me and pork rice for Ellie, getting on board with this Malaysian food at any time of the day! We had to wait for the train for an hour because we missed the previous one by 4 minutes... bloody typical!
As soon as we arrived at the caves the heavens opened and it bloody pissed down, it was bouncing off the floor! We made it to one of the Hindu temples without slipping which I’m not quite sure how because Ellie’s slip and trip count is at least 5 times everyday and that’s on dry flat floor let alone wet slippery tiles.
We bought a poncho after figuring out that the shop right next to us was selling them, just in time for it to stop raining as soon as we put the damn things on! Typical.
The cave was 272 steps high to be precise, it was another Buddha cave BUT it was free which is very peculiar but we were rolling with it. On the way back down the monkeys had reappeared from the rain and were horrible little s***s were nasty aswell staring at everything in your hands and going for people with selfie sticks. I hate the little horrible things.
We were ladies nighting it tonight so we had to get back and get some grub down us on the street food alley before a quick turn around showering and getting ready.
Traders hotel sky bar over looking the Petronas Towers had ladies night 6-9pm 35 ringgit (£5/6) for free flowing wine and then cocktails after 9pm for free! Holy moly we hit the jackpot, it was lovely up there ! Bar tables surrounding a 25 metre pool which was a little strange to be sat having a drink all nicely dressed whilst watching some old guy do backstroke terribly!
Some guy asked us to sit with him he was here on work and bored s***less overheard us saying we were welsh and he was from Grimsby, Yorkshire of all places!
He was chatting about his daughters and work all night with Ellie whilst I took in the sites from the window seat, all quite nice and he even gave us his business card and said that we remind him of his daughters and that if we wanted a place to stay in Copenhagen he owns a house here that he’s never at because of work. He’s what we call a multi millionaire- his ex wife ran off with an Arab in dubai and he had to give her the £2 million house and double in payout. Hmmm do the math!
We left there around midnight which meant that there were no trains running now so we had to walk the whole way back, not sure how we managed it we were fairly drunk! Ellie couldn’t wait to get herself down the foodie street for some dumplings and a pork Bao Boo Bun or what ever they’re called. Always eating or thinking about eating this girl lol!
We got in around 1.30am to a cockroach free room! Result.
