Thankfully our washing came at 7am and we could pack it or try and squeeze it all back into the rucksacks! We were up early again, but this time a more suitable hour of 7am wake up and not 5am!
We had plenty of time to have breakfast at the hostel and relax a little around the pool to try and find the WiFi before we found a taxi to the airport.
The hostel helped us, it was only 50,000 around the corner to the airport in the back of their truck. It was a little windy but funny. Only us would be put in the back of a truck with our rucksacks lol.
The airport was tiny and we were over on our luggage by 1kg which was a pain in the arse because we had to go back out of departures and down to the customer service to pay for the excess baggage before they would let us have our paper receipt of a boarding pass.
Security was a quick swipe over your body with a metal detector and the bags through a machine and we were in departure lounge, just one big hall upstairs full of chairs with a few coffee shops and souvenir shops dotted around the outside.
Our flight was very full surprisingly. The view of the islands were amazing with the crystal clear water with coral reefs and fluffy mountains that you could see. We landed 50 minutes after take off and this time around no silly long border control lines because we were domestic; so Putu (I think that’s his name) Ellie’s friend of a friend that’s from Bali picked us up and drove us up to Ubud.
Half way into the two hour journey we drove passed a temple gate which he then told us that it was actually a cremation ceremony, and as he did tell me I seen a human body inside on of two long coffin shaped box up on stilts covered in flames. That I cannot see. Something I never ever wanted to see either.
Ellie was on the other side of the car to me so didn’t see it thankfully but she had all the mourners sat on the crib watching it with all their traditional Balinese hats and skirts on. Couldn’t believe how open it all was and that we were driving through the middle of it. What sort of funeral is that for somebody...
Ubud, was busy busy with lots of traffic and tourists riding mopeds. This place is full of yoga retreats, healthy food stops and Indonesian souvenirs from magnets to cheap clothes, guitars made out of coconuts and wooden penis bottle openers in all sizes.
The guesthouse was lovely, Jaga Roni up a small alleyway in a family’s home which they made the back of into a guesthouse. Very authentic Balinese style house and decor, the family were lovely and very attentive with welcome drinks and tea and water and everything in between. Finally a nice place with a comfy bed though! Heaven! Can you believe this place is £4.50 a night with breakfast included! Steal!
Shower and out for a smooch around to find our bearings and to to give Ellie her shopping fix. The boutiques and even the cheap market stalls have some gorgeous items here. All the embroidered bags and jewellery, it all has such a good style here.
We went for dinner in a trip advisor recommended place in our budget, the one $ sign price range. Delicious local food! Then we met with mum and dads peru friend and his daughter (Steve and Naomi) for a cocktail in union bar. They’re so lovely to be around! Great getting to know them, and to realise his how small this world is!
I nearly got my hand bit off by a big fat on eyed dog on the way back, I think he must of been hangry. He was snooping in the bins. Although he had a collar on so I thought he would have been a little friendlier towards humans... not that a collar means they should be but i thought maybe he was looked after well because he had an owner and was obese so he’s being fed...?
