We had a good night sleep considering we didn't get to sleep until 2am this morning and we got woken up at 7am by inconsiderate people banging doors and gadding about with plastic carrier bags! I let them know my frustration of waking us up by huffing and puffin and shouting 'shut up'. It eventually worked because I managed to get back off to sleep, I think Scott gave in and stayed up to watch you tube and sport.
Our flight has been pushed back to 2.50pm today now, that's the second time they changed it. So we were able to take our time getting up and showered and walk over to the train station.
We arrived at the airport about 12pm, it was all so easy as they have a direct train from KL Sentral to the airports now. We are in the new building - KLIA2, you can tell it's really new. It still has that fresh new smell and of course looks clean.
We self checked in, got to baggage claim and much to our disappointment Air Asia had delayed our flight for the 3rd time to 5.05pm. How very kind of them!
Now we have to hang about in the airport for 4 and half hours until we board, it's a nice airport and plenty of shops to look about but just frustration knowing we could have been there already! And it's only an hours flight!
Getting a little sick of waiting around now between yesterday and today, we just want to get to the jungle and chill with the Orangutans!
Finally our flight took off at 5.30pm, there was no messing about getting on the runway and in the air! The flight was supposed to be one hour long, I'm pretty sure we were only in the air about 40 minutes. The moment we ascended we began to descent straight away! An Indonesian guy sat next to me helped me out with the immigration forms for customs because they were all written in Indonesian language.
There was no hassle getting through immigration, it was all fairly quick. The man did interrogate me a little but I'm used to these guys now!
Our poor driver had been waiting at the airport for 3 hours for us because of our late delay with the flight. First thoughts of Indonesia, the people are lovely!
The journey took us four hours to get to Bukit Lawang, we had a huge storm whilst we were driving which was fun to watch. The traffic was really busy because of the night markets.
We felt safe though with our tinted windows and the doors locked!
We stopped for dinner at a roadside cafe, the menu was photos of the food because they did t really understand English. I had morning glory and it was delicious! Scott had some sort of bea sprout and noodle dish which tasted good as well! I'm pretty sure it all tasted so good because it wasn't McDonald's!
The roads were pretty bad as we got further into the jungle, the monsoon season had battered them!
Finally arriving at Bukit Lawang at 11pm, a guy took us over a crickety old bridge that rocked over a fat flowing river! Fabulous in the dark and rucksacks on! He was taking us to one of the rooms and I had to stop and tell him that we had already booked accommodation. We got taken back over the other side of the river and met the guy that I had been emailing for the taxi, I think he thought that we just wanted to stay there and not that we had actually emailed the owner and made a reservation there. It was all a little confusing but we got to the room and unfortunately for us it was a Saturday night and that means jungle party in the bar directly opposite from us, it would have been fine if he knew the words to the songs and the base wasn't so heavy and ridiculously loud but it was and he didn't know the words so it was dreadful!
Scott found wifi on the terrace upstairs to watch the football, wifi in the jungle aye!? I was so tired I managed to fall asleep even with the heavy music playing! I was just so happy to finally have arrived at the destination and everyone is so friendly shouting welcome to bukit lawang when we walked passed them.
