Our alarm clock this morning were the noises of the white gibbon singing in the trees and the noise of the river flowing passed which actually made you think that it was raining.
We got some breakfast on the rooftop and met Marie who owns the guesthouse, we caught up on the mis-confusion last night. Fruit salad for breakfast for me! You would not believe how excited I was for it, and I had a black passionfruit which was delicious!
Scott had a chocolate pancake and that was healthier than what he has been having for breakfast lately!
Scott soon discovered that they were showing the Mayweather V Paccio fight on the television downstairs in one of the bars, so the guy that took our food showed him where it was and was eager to take our order to go and watch the match.
We had breakfast and had plenty of time until the fight started. I took our dirty laundry to be washed, I needed a black bag to take it all, i just have well put the entire contents of our bags in it, there was so much to be washed!! it all stunk. I hand washed a few things that I didn't want to be shrunk and finally we had a little washing line and a patio for them to dry! Woohoo! That's what it's come to.. Getting excited over a washing line!
We watched the fight, It was fairly boring and Mayweather won. To me it looked like Paccio won but hey! Now it was time for some lunch so we went to the restaurant next door which turns out is the hotel that we are staying in tomorrow night because the riverside are fully booked. At least we don't have to walk very far with our bags in the morning! The food was lovely again!
We went for a stroll up the river to find the orangutan feed platform, lots of locals about today because it's the weekend and they flock to the jungle to see the animals and go tubing. The tubing looked so much fun! I feel sorry for the guys that carry three at a time up and down the river all day long! They look bloody heavy.
We found the orangutan feeding platform... Only we walked passed it and it was on the other side of the river.
We later found out at 3pm that they carry a dingy up the river and put in the water opposite the feeding centre. Then there is a price of thick rope tied either end of the river and they attach it to the dingy and send about 4-5 people over at a time. haha! It was so funny!
We had to register at the national park office, he didn't write anything in a book though or give us a permit letter so we are guessing he pocketed that money. It was a long ole walk up to the Orangutans and it was absolutely piddling it down with rain so that didn't help matters! We were soaked right through, I was just worried about the bag getting wet so I was hunched over it the whole time, luckily our little £10 go outdoors bag held out and managed to keep the rain out!
We waited for some to come, they were being fed bananas and milk, the first one came Juno, with her baby. She did not want to feed her baby! She wanted to drink the milk and eat all the bananas for herself!
They were so incredible, seeing them so close up! Semi-wild Orangutans in the flesh. They were adorable, swinging from tree to tree and making it look so easy! We were about 2 metres away from them, we just sat in awe and amazement. We couldn't believe we were watching Orangutans up close.
Then another one came, Sandra and her baby. The babies are so cute! Hanging on for dear life to the mother, I just want to cuddle one!
She was a little nervous of the other orangutan do she was skirting around her trying not to get to close to the men giving her food because she wouldn't be able to make a quick get away. (By this time Juno was well high up into the trees probably not even caring about what Sandra was up to!) Sandra got so scared and worried that she fell when trying to grab a branch and swung down to the ground hitting her head, she was okay though just a little shaken. It's strange seeing them walk on the floor, they look so small, old and fragile. I just wanted to give her a cuddle!
Afterwards we walked back down and thankfully the rain had stopped. We took a not so welcoming cold shower and chilled out on the patio for a while before going out for a bite to eat at Sam's bungalow. We both hard a curry, they were delicious!
It's going to be nice to have a peaceful night sleep without music blaring tonight, although we do have to get up early for our trek tomorrow in the jungle!
