Days 458-470, 13-25 Sept '15, Farewell Fuengirola... Hola Athens (via Istanbul!) After our crazy 4 days with our Spanish amiga Carmen, we took it easy for a few days and started planning the exodus. We always say that if we stay somewhere for about 5-6 weeks it's worth unpacking - from a scientific perspective it's like watching the big bang at the creation of the universe as the bags explode. So you can only imagine how far and wide the contents can travel when we're in one spot for almost 3 months. Far. Wide. Very. Yes. Thus we started packing over a week ago. Phew! from 75kg when we arrived from Ireland (checked x 3 and cabin bags), we had to get down to 56kg (checked x 2 and smaller cabin bags ) Yup - 20 kilos had to go and that wasn't including the assorted bits and bobs we've bought at the markets along the way. By virtue of sending some favourites back to Australia and leaving some knock-a-bout summer gear in Spain (perhaps for our next visit), we've managed it. And our luggage is as lean and mean as ever. We've been out to a couple of restaurants in the last couple of weeks and must say, we will miss the Spanish cost of living incredibly. Last night's farewell to Fuengirola dinner was the best deal yet. Found this spot, Meson Salamanca, via a poolside recommendation and a 3 course meal including a bottle of wine between two of us... only €19.80. (With tablecloths and waiters and everything... James had his first prawn cocktail since the '80s. My starter was the paella you see in the photo). We had an early dinner and even managed to get the last bus home instead of a 10 euro cab. Bliss. Well that is our time in Spain at an end - for now. We're at the airport and waiting to fly to Athens (via Istanbul) and after 3 bound-to-be-awesome days in Athens... we head to Cyprus Monday night for a month. Now about those exploding back packs...
