Days 256-261, 23-28 Feb '15, Fuengirola and Alhaurin el Grande, Spain.
Just the other day, someone close to us asked us what we planned on doing for our next retirement... in say 20 years time. Which made us take a teensy step back and smile a lot - as we're having such a cracking time with this "retirement" and aren't even sure what we're doing in 3 months time. Let alone 20 years. At this point the novelty of tripping about together again has not yet worn in... let alone worn off. Current plans? Here til 26 March and then a 2 week housesit in a town just up the hill and along a veritable goat track of a road. It was sealed. That much can be said. But the drive up was nervewracking in the extreme - there just wasn't enough seal! Was cool to visit another town though, meet our new dogs and see our Easter lodgings. We enjoyed a tapa and a drink in the main square of Alhaurin el Grande then returned to our town, Fuengirola. Been a lot of the old tapa & a drink thing going on this week (see picture). The promotion we've been enjoying is coming to an end today, but luckily another one is starting in Mijas, just up the hill. On Tuesday, continuing with the food theme, we went to the big market at the fairground - variously called the new market (vs. the flea market) or the Tuesday Market, it focuses on bags, clothes, souvenirs etc and also fruit and veges. Pots and pots and pots of them all for wonderful prices. Just prior to this photo we were at the market and splurged a whole €20 on masses of food. I know the novelty may well have worn off our shopping lists by now, but here goes: 2 kg strawberries (€2.50), 2 kg of mandarines, 1 kg mushrooms, 1 kg apples, a mint plant for, mojitos, 2 kg heirloom tomatoes, 1 kg potatoes, 1 kg grapes, 2 kg avocadoes (only €1.50 but heaven knows what we'll do with them all), 3 lettuces, 1 kg kiwifruit, 1 kg bananas. A photo of this bounty will be in the album.
Thursday was also a big day this week - not only did we jaunt up to Alhaurin el Grande for a look - it was also the 21 year anniversary of James and I having met. We had a glorious evening out, strolling the waterfront after sunset and had something different... Chinese. Certainly doesn't get more different from tapas than that.
