Days 430-436, 16-22 Aug '15, Animales Amazonas! Yes. Here in Fuengirola. But first, the bloodthirsty rampage of domestic violence continues here in Andalucia with the 6th woman to be killed this year (and 34 women killed in Spain). Our weekly free paper is a font of generally happy and interesting info - and keeps one up to date on horrors too. This time a 72 year old cabbie, known to be horrendously possessive, killed his 68 year old wife with an axe. Married for 40 years. One can only wonder what heinous crime the poor woman committed to deserve the axe... tapas over cooked? We had a day on the beach with deckchairs and a parasol on Friday - rather conveniently the day 3 different free papers came out - so are completely on top of the news. Lunch was even eaten off the news - nothing like a day of sea air to get the appetite pumping and we treated ourselves to a shared serve of cod and chips from The Crispy Cod - just over the road from our beach area. Aside from our usual haunts - Tuesday market for fruit and vege and, this week, a completely unnecessary present for me (see album for lovely new watch) and Saturday market (95% full bottle of James's fave aftershave...), our big find was a free zoo. Strictly speaking, we were walking along a side street heading home from the market. Saw a sign for an exotic animal pet shop. The sign had a picture of a kangaroo on it and we both said, simultaneously "Yeah - Right!" and then "As if!" We saw meerkats in the window (darn no camera) and thought we'd better go and have a look at everything else and - amazingly - they did have a wallaby! So cute! And a Kookaburra (in Spanish Cukabora) and even a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. A little taste of Australia in a seaside Spanish town. But wait, there's more. They had incredible exotic birds including macaws, massive hunting owls, ferrets, snakes, mongooses (mongoosi?), spiders of all shapes and sizes, lizards, chameleons, hamsters, some lovely puppies and kittens and even a skunk. Obviously would have to call him Pepe if you were that way inclined - pretty sure it's the first skunk I've even seen. There was even a section for rats (small €1/medium €2/large €3). Still not sure if they were destined to be "pets" or "petfood" - but incredible spot to visit. Luckily we are not possessed of gullible children otherwise they'd be getting an outing to the "zoo" every week. The week ahead? Could be a rock concert this coming weekend... waiting for the tickets to go on Oferplan (local Groupon - "Never, Ever Pay Retail" is our most important mantra!)
