Days 46-47, 28-29 July 2014 - Monday morning, after 60 odd hours without electricity, the sparky finally turned up and traced the fault to a tumble dryer that had had a breakdown and in turn blew a switch, which meant everything was off. €90 later I was left dancing about the house, finally unpacking, finally settled and finally able to see if the freezer had survived. Not the case unfortunately, so a bit of a cleanout accomplished I thought about all the day trips, all the markets, all the things I could do... and instead spent the afternoon reading, watching a movie and staring at the ceiling fans going round and round. So happy. Monday became Tuesday and it was off to the fairground for the weekly Tuesday Market (bit of inventive naming going on there!) First time on the bus down to town (bit expensive €1.55) a 5 minute trip (35 minute train from airport was only €2.65). Met a couple on the way who showed me a shortcut to the fair ground and recommended a superb breakfast deal for after the market. Had a great stroll around this massive market - read somewhere that it has 540+ stalls and quite believe it. Loads of fake bags and junk, but lots of lovely summer clothes, fruit and veges, olives etc. Finally popped out the main entrance after a couple of hours and scraped into the cafe at 12.29 pm... barely 30 seconds before they took the breakfast special board down. Will definitely be going back here - toasted baguette with ham & cheese (jamon & queso I suppose I should say), orange juice that had been securely inside an orange skin just moments before and cafe con leche. Lovely, lovely lunchie/brekkie. Across the road to the Tourist Info centre - finally have a map of the town and now completely have my bearings. By now lugging a pineapple and a kilo each of plums and nectarines (total €2), I took a cruise through the main square, checked out the post office location and tootled down Calle Moncayo - or Fish Alley. Seems to have every cuisine imaginable, including, down the cheap end, a regular tapas joint. That is one that gives you the wee snack for free with each drink. Made a note of that place. Arms falling off it was back to the bus station and 'lo and behold my bus was waiting for me. Even managed to get off at the correct stop on the way home - always an achievement on the first bus ride in a foreign land. Me and the cats are planning a restful afternoon, an evening dip and who knows what the next few days might bring.
