Wednesday 1st August 2018 - Left camp early so that we could make it into Pine Creek for breakfast at the Railway resort and to refuel as we had used our reserves from our jerry cans to get us there. On the way we saw numerous kangaroos by the roadside that hopped away on our approach. Luckily they didn't hop in front of us to cause an accident.
We ended up spending a couple of hours in Pine Creek because during breakfast we met a couple who told of their experience driving the Gibb River Road. Our next stop was at Katherine to re-stock before heading to Timber Creek.
We camped for the night at Mathison, a roadside free camp where we were disturbed at 2:30am by a noise outside and found a man on his push bike looking for a place to pitch his tent.
Thursday 2nd August 2018 - Before we set off we gave the cyclist some hot water for a drink, when asked about his trip he said that he had cycled over 200kms. He looked around 70 years old.
The drive was lovely this morning, with a view across the open plain, lots of kangaroos along the roadside together with eagles and kites flying around.
Our next stop was at the Victoria River Roadhouse before continuing on to do the Escarpment walk that gave us another lovely view over the Victoria River and the surrounding plains.
We had a large lunch of salad, vegetables and fruit in Timber Creek as we can't take any fresh produce across the border into WA.
Having been given the all clear at the border crossing we left the Northern Territory and headed on to Lake Argyle in Western Australia.
After a long drive and the assistance with the change in the time difference between the States we arrived at Lake Argyle where we decided to spend the next couple of nights. We set up camp and watched the sunset over the lake before having dinner outside with not bugs!!
Friday 3rd August 2018 - We had a very windy night last night that had us up at 2am to put away the awning before it ripped and then back to bed.
Had a bit of a lazy morning and the day unfolded as follows:
Walked along The Bluff Walk Trail that took us to the end of a huge ochre bluff that overlooked the lake. We crossed the Village Falls Creek and Banangum Ridge before arriving at the bluff that gave beautiful panoramic views of the lake, coves and islands. Awesome.
In the afternoon we took a swim in the infinity pool overlooking the lake that extended as far as you could see.
Showered, changed and then set of for Pannikin Bay Sunset lookout. We made our way up the unmarked (secret) track where we parked and set up out table & chairs to sit and enjoy a glass of Champagne as the sun went down.
Met a small group of six people who discovered that they all came from the same town, knew & worked with the same people in Wollongong NSW. We had a good time with everyone and stayed on the ridge until it was nearly dark before making our way back to camp after a magical few hours.
On return to camp we met up again with the group before we went our separate ways for dinner.
Saturday 4th August 2018 - Before we had breakfast we walked a rugged trail along the Ord River Gorge Trail that took us along the cliff top that gave us great views over the Ord River Gorge, Ord River Dam and the Hydro. We then came back to get the car to take a drive across the Dam down to the Ord River where we did a bit of birdwatching.
We met a lovely Scottish lady who gave us some tips about Wyndham if we were heading that way.
Got back to camp to have breakfast before packing up and heading for Kununurra where we will be based for a few days to plan the next stage of our journey around East Kimberley. Arrived in Kununurra where we set up camp near Lake Kununurra, then went into town and returned for a relaxing evening.
