Lucky Bay - Cape Le Grand National Park
Friday 23rd to 28th November 2018 - We set of in the morning for the Cape Le Grand National Park to spend 4 nights at Lucky Bay. As we drove through the national park the landscape changed to undulating hills of sloping granite and orange wildflowers with patches of yellow banksias swaying in the breeze.
We drove over a brow of a hill and before us was the most amazing sight; Lucky Bay with its incredible sweeping beach of pure white sand and bright turquoise water. Wow! We thought we'd seen the best beaches in Esperance but this one was the pick of bunch.
Lucky Bay is known for its fine white sand that squeaks as you walk upon it and the kangaroos that frequent the beach.
On arrival at the campsite we found that we were able to pick our own spot and was lucky to find a large site that was probably the best one as it gave us a panoramic view over Lucky Bay.
This place made such an impression on us that we extended out stay and managed to book two more nights.
During our time at this captivating place we:
Spent time driving down on to the beach with the kangaroos that regularly wandered down on to the sand to eat or sit in the sun or as one occasion to lay out in the shade of our vehicle.
We swam in the beautiful turquoise water, walked along the pure white sand to the end of the beach to a lookout and a couple of rocky outcrops that had formed smaller lovely coves.
We drove down onto Le Grand Beach ofsweeping firm white sand with stunning turquoise water that ran along for 22kms to Wylie Beach.
Hellfire Bay another beautiful bay surrounded by more granite rocks and high sand dunes that sloped down into the ocean.
Whistling Rock a tall vertical piece of granite sticking up out of the ground with crevices that made sounds when the wind forced air in between them. We walked around to the edge of the sloping boulders forming part of Thistle Covethat gave us a panoramic view across the small headland and the bay.
We walked back past the whistling rock and took the trail across a huge sloping granite rock that led down into Thistle Cove another pretty beach.
Frenchman Peak a tall granite hill where we climbed up a very steep trail, traversing as we went to get to the summit that gave spectacular views over Cape Le Grand with its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters to the Recherche Archipelago beyond.
