Sunday 5th August 2018 - What did we do today!
Our initial intention was to go to the Ivanhoe Crossing but on the way we stopped at the Kimberley Ornamental Stonecraft that is a workshop and gallery that specially designs pieces of Zebra Rock. There are only three Zebra Rock Mines in Australia and the owner of one of them Brian, gave us a tour of his workshop where he designs, cuts & polishes the pieces he brings up from his mine
Then we stopped at metal work shop before we finally made our way to the Ivanhoe Crossing.
The Ivanhoe crossing has water from the Ord River streaming over the top of it and used to be the only way out of Kununuarra to Wyndham before a diversion dam was built. We drove across the river crossing to take a look at both Middle Springs and Black Rock Falls before stopping on our way back to do a spot of fishing by the river.
We crossed back over the river crossing and made our way back to camp in time to watch the sunset over Lake Kununuarra.
Monday 6th August 2018 - Went into town today to have a look around before heading off to take a look around the Sandalwood Factory that makes its own beauty and scented products.
Visited the Hoochery Distillery that distils and bottles its own rum and where Phil sampled a couple of tots before sharing with me a piece of Rum Mud pie with cream.
Took a mystery drive back to camp that ended up at the Pump House that sits beside the river and as we made our way along the river we came across a number of Crimson Finches. We also saw two Bustards that are large majestic birds that walk with their heads up as if they are royalty and a large Boab Tree.
Tuesday 7th August 2018 - Today we took a drive to Molly Springs that was about 30kms outside of Kununurra that was a very small natural spring that runs all year round in a lovely shady spot.
We spent the afternoon re-organising the Ute and preparing for an early departure tomorrow.
