Sunday 29th July 2018 - Having left Batchelor we drove onto Adelaide River where we stopped for a coffee and Bacon & Egg Toastie. This was an interesting little café that was also had an art gallery and small shop where the owner was selling their homemade jams and chutneys.
We met a lovely couple here and in conversation we ended up spending the time swapping hints & tips for the places we had all been too or were travelling to. When we finally bid our goodbyes we continued on our journey to Daly River.
The drive was different from the usual we had been on in the NT in that the road wasn't a straight one. It weaved up and down a single and had a variety of changing landscape from trees to a vast open nothingness that was a flood plain with no trees what so ever as far as you could see. We finally arrived at Woolianna a beautiful campsite located beside the Daly River that is famous for its large barramundi.
We set up camp before heading down to the boat ramp for a spot of fishing and caught a couple of Sooty Grunters. We then joined the other caravaners/fishermen for a gathering and drinks before dinner.
Monday 30th July 2018 - We had a bit of chill today. We got up and did a bit of fishing before breakfast, hung around camp catching up on our reading, went for a swim in the pool (definitely not the river because of the Crocs!) a bit more fishing before a catch up at the camp gathering and dinner.
Dinner tonight was a bit special; we had freshly caught barramundi that had only been landed a few hours before in the Daly River. We cooked it on the BBQ with garlic & ginger and it was delicious. You can't beat a bit of fresh Barra. Sadly we can't claim this catch as our own as we were kindly given the Barra by one of the campers who had too many to eat themselves.
Tuesday 31st July 2018 - Prepared the rig for departure from our campsite at the beautiful Daly
River, that's definitely a place we would re-visit. We are now on our way to take a look at the Daly River crossing that is only a short stop from the Roadside Inn before heading off to Douglas-Daly.
On the road out of Daly River we also stopped to at Nauiyu that is an aboriginal community, home of the Merrepen Art Centre where we bought a picture of a Dancing Brogla. We were also able to meet with the artist and take a picture of her with her painting.
Next stop a free camp for the night at the Douglas- Daly Hot Springs Nature Park where we went for a walk along the Hot Springs that ran adjacent a fresh water creek and where we took a swim before dinner. It was amazing, one minute the water was hot and then the next minute it was cold. One section was really too hot to walk through and that is why the actual Hot Springs have been closed and you can only swim in the creek that it fed by them.
