I was up at 6am this morning to get the dirty clothes washed and hung out on the line before anyone woke up. Rog then cooked bacon & eggs for brekkie and we wandered over (in the cold and windy weather) to see the Pelicans getting fed at 8:45am. There used to be about 15 pelicans everyday but after the floods the old pelicans left and new ones have arrived and now they are lucky to get any pelicans to the daily feeding. We were lucky enough to have 2 female pelicans. They normally come right up to the grassed area but instead the kids each got a sardine and fed the pelicans in the water - which they both loved. The kids had a ride on their bikes/scooters and Josh is getting better at riding by himself, then played at the park.
Next it was off to Kalbarri National Park and a walk to 'Nature's Window' an inland gorge. It was supposed to be a 1km round trip but Rog was in the lead and I was just following and we felt like we had been walking for ages when a man commented and we realised that we had missed 'Nature's Window' and were actually on the 9km loop walk. So we quickly turned around and on our way back we decided to traverse down to the Murchinson River so the kids could throw rocks in the water. It was a nice break although it was a hard climb back up carrying Bronte in my arms. We finally made it back to Nature's Window and it was really beautiful and I have no idea how we missed it the first time! It was a big walk though as we both pretty much each carried a child in our arms the whole way and I think it ended up being a 4km round trip (it was also a lot of walking up rocks, uneven ground, cliff faces with 2 kids that have no idea about how dangerous and easy it would be fall over the edge and then walk in sand once we got down the bottom). We next drove to 'Z Bend' and it was a 600 mtr return walk to the lookout and I really wanted to walk it but we were exhausted and knew that we would have to carry the kids so Rog talked me out of it very quickly.
Instead we headed back to the caravan park and then Roger went Fishing and the kids played in the sand at Chinaman's Beach. Whilst the kids were playing a very tame pelican came over to them and played with them for about 20 mins. It got a bit cranky and snapped at them both once but that was all. Josh caught a toad fish and the pelican seemed pretty interested until he saw what fish it was so was happy for Josh to throw it back in the water. We stayed on the beach to watch the sunset and it was really beautiful.
Then it was back to the caravan for left over vegetable stir fry for dinner.
For those that like a Josh story.....today he was talking about his birthday party and how he wants it to be a rudie nudie party. Luckily all the parents have to wear clothes though and luckily his birthday isn't till end November so plenty of time for him to think of a new theme otherwise he will be the only one at his party!
