Oakabella - Northhampton - Port Gregory - Kalbarri
We woke up around 6am and got ready and left around 7:30. We drove through a small part of Northhampton (which is the 2nd oldest town in WA after Perth) then stopped at Port Gregory. It's only a small fishing village but it has a pink lake (due to its colour created by the naturally occurring beta carotene), which was really cool. I think there should be some more pink lakes out there. We also stopped at the beach which has a reef 5km offshore. Roger spoke to a local for an hour so the kids had fun playing in the sand.
Our next stop was Kalbarri and this place is amazing and definitely a trip highlight. We checked into the Murchison Caravan Park, unhitched the caravan, had lunch and then went to the Australian Parrott Breeding Centre. It was such a beautiful place and the birds were great. There were birds everywhere and there is an avery you can walk through and find all different kinds. I had to laugh as I think Josh's highlight was finding a frog in the pond and trying to catch it (not all the beautiful parrot's!). We were there for a couple of hours and then we went to Jacques Point which is a registered national surfing reserve. The waves break along the point, allowing spectators close up views. There were some great tubes and some great stacks and i'm sure we will be back tomorrow for some more surfing action.
Next we visited all the coastal gorges and they were all spectacular. They included Island Rock, Natural Bridge, Shell house, Grandstand, Pot Alley, Eagle Gorge and Red Bluff. We were lucky enough to spot some wildlife including lot's of whales (but they were far out), a kangaroo, a rabbit and a skink.
Then it was time to head back to the caravan for steak and vegetables for dinner. Soon after Roger cooked dinner the glass under our electric hot plate smashed. It's obviously a fault with the caravan as the same thing happened to Corinne & Chris after they used the electric hot plate for the first time on their trip.
We have another fun filled day in Kalbarri tomorrow and I think I will have to try and twist Roger's arm to stay a 3rd night as this place is amazing.
