Night one we caught a storm after what ended as a hot day. Like each storm here so far, lots of blow and bluster but not much in the rainfall department.
We woke to a cooler morning, so we packed our rucksacks and headed of for an 18k round trip to Hidden Gorge. A beautiful walk up the creek, with large red river gums in a 100 different shapes and sizes. The birds in this place are many and varied, so Sue was never sure which lens to have on her camera.
We had a light lunch about half way through the walk, right where the gorge was just 15 to 20 meters across and the cliff were vertical for perhaps 80 meters high.
Later in the walk we chatted with a large goanna and a shy brown snake declined an interview thankfully.
As we left the gorge for the ridge line we crossed a group of ants that wanted to run away from home and they all climbed onto our boots for the ride. It took at least 100 meters before we managed to dispatch with the last of the hitch hikers.
At the top of the ridge is a fire lookout and a stony vehicle track. A little later we branched off onto a narrow walking track which lead the last 5km back to camp. The track is rough and as we were tired by this time we had to take care not to twist an ankle. We were back in camp by 5.30pm just in time to see groups of high school students trudge past.
Maybe it is needless to say, we were in bed quite early.
Day two was a catch up day - Sue to chase birds and Mal to finish some incomplete drawings, download photos and do the back up and perhaps go for a walk up the creek. Well Mal managed his drawings and file housekeeping and washed the dishes. Sue washed some clothes, photographed lots of birds and trees and did a video of two goannas fighting - boy those female goannas are testy. A really good day even though we hardly moved more than a hundred meters from the camp. This is such a great place.
Packed up on day three as a chorus of forty black birds sand, "Don't leave Us Here" - we packed with a tear in our eye and the mercury climbed.
