Departed Trizona Campground around 10.30am and the day was already starting to heat up. We poked along up to Blinman and had a quick look around. We did have an early lunch and then started the run through to Parachilna.
The road is gravel but at the moment is in excellent condition, Ernie was quite happy hanging on behind Gertie. When we came down the range into the start of the Parachilna Gorge the mountains were just inspiring, with the sediments folded in graceful curves and the rich colours from red and yellow through to a rich metallic blue grey.
So we arrived at Angorichina Village, which is an old T.B. isolation hospital from before the second world war. Now it is just a tourist resort of a very approachable style. There are some very comfortable new holiday units, but they are not pretentious - just functional and probably great value for money.
We have taken up a powered site for two nights to get the washing done, the freezer brick frozen and all our batteries charged.
Because we had not travelled far today we had plenty of time to check out the birds in the creek (Sue) and mal wandered up one of the hills to do some drawing and photography. There were no clouds in the sky so he did not stay up on the hill for the sunset.
Wednesday - after Melbourne Cup
I was up before the sun and walked up to a hill not too far from camp and found a good spot to photograph the hills. The breeze was chilly and the sun was not a deep golden colour - there was not a cloud in the sky.
I surprised a large grey Kangaroo on the walk back and in an attempt to get away he did a mighty jump over a fallen tree - how far I don't know but maybe 12 feel.
We had a cuppa tea and breakfast and headed off to walk to Blinman Pools. Very early in the walk we passed some old stone huts, well at least the remains. When we later asked about the huts, we were told that a fellow used to live in one hut and have his milking goats in the other. This all happened before 1927 when the property was turned into a TB hospital for returned service men - (first war - bit late).
The walk up the creek was delightful, lots of water, rock forms, birds and beautiful trees. We saw goats, sheep, yabbies and lots of lizards. A cool breeze followed us up the gorge.
We walked to the first of the two Blinman Pools, and even though I walked some way further up the creek I did not reach the second pool - well maybe next time.
We walked back to camp which we reached about 20 to 4 pm.
