We poked off from Broken Hill around 8.30 and found our way out of town while the temp was still in the 20's. The run to the border is rather short and soon we found our selves, posing for our photographic assistant (the tripod) for a shot before we crossed the border.
We had lizards on poles, emus and other distractions as we did the run across to Olay - this is what I expected Silverton to be like - this place is terrific - old crumble down buildings - no one is interested - and an atmosphere which speaks of stories which were left unfinished as people moved on.
The day warmed as we plugged on towards Yunta - we pulled in for an ice cream - it was in the mid to high 30's by now. A chap who had followed us for a few miles came over to question us about what tyre pressures we were running - really good conversation - we decided to up the pressures a bit and try it out.
Well we found that the rear tyre was over what BMW tyre pressure sensors allowed so we backed off to 3.4 bar rear and 2.7 bar front. 2:57 PMthese pressures dropped when the temps on the next day dropped back to 3.1 and 2.4
Still not sure we have it all 100% but we don't have the loud tyre whine we got when heading North and so far the tyres are holding up.
We stopped in Peterborough, visited Ian in the Motorcycle Museum, that was an hour or so well spent. Interesting collection of small capacity European motorcycles displayed in an old church building. Well done.
Did some shopping in Peterborough so we were stocked up for three nights at Mount Remarkable N.P.
The next day we fuelled up and took a run through the back roads across to the gulf. What a beautiful day. By morning tea we were stopped on the side of a small dirt road overlooking a peaceful rural valley. We rode on just taking our time, up hill and down dale - no traffic, just peace and tranquility. Gertie and Ernie just bounced along the gravel roads and chugged up the steep hills when the occurred. We dropped in to see Judy Elliott and her daughter Katrina (husband Adrian was away) and check out the gallery after a pleasant cup of tea.
There was a light shower of rain as we left, just enough to wet the road down through the gorge. The rocks stacked high and large twisted gums got us well primed for Mt Remarkable. We had to do some consultation when we arrived at our - "sites must be booked online" site to find some one else already ensconced in our site 14. They agreed to move and we moved in. Later the ranger came around to ask if were having any problems with their booking system. Mmmmm we had a bit to say.
