Friday 14th - Lincoln National Park
We woke up this morning at the Port Lincoln Caravan Park, a light rain was trying to work up to something, a chilly wind was flicking across the bay with gusto - we thought about it and decided to pack up anyway.
We filled up with fuel, checked in at the Tourist Info centre, Mal got a hair cut and we filled up with food at Woolies and then finally rode out to the National Park.
We have a nice campsite just near the beach and we set up before walking along the coastline where the rock formations are inspirational and the small gums wave their arms in a frozen frantic dance.
We played cards after tea because it was too cold to go for an evening walk - later in the evening we had about two clashes of thunder and a light shower and along with monuments, something SA is not short of, wind - yes folks, wind, wind, wind.
Saturday 15th
Still over cast and cold. The people next door moved early so we relocated to their spot as it has a nice view of the rain on the bay and of course has 1.5% less wind. After breakfast we went for a 5k walk where Sue was able to photograph some birds she had never seen before - yep one of them and two of the others.
We had a latish lunch and Sue went out in her bird hide to try and stork some innocent birdies and I have stayed back in camp to catch up on some sketches, because it is too bleak to go to the beach and draw, maybe tomorrow.
The day did not improve and by 5pm it was blowing, cold, light rain and time to batten down the hatches. Needless to say we had an early night.
Sunday 16th
Mal did not rise early enough to see the sun peep over the horizon beneath a low bank of clouds but he was ready for the sun when it warmed the sky as it rose a second time from behind that low bank of clouds. The bay was tranquil and the clouds were reflected in the liquid rippled glaze of the bay.
Fluffy clouds grazed on an azure field and slowly wandered to the North. Sue set up her bird hide to look for the elusive National Geographic cover shot and Mal headed off to the beach to do that drawing he was meant to do yesterday.
After lunch the team mounted Gertie and rode off to explore further afield. Sue found some great Rock Parrots and Mal found some GREAT ROCKS to draw. He is like a broken record with those rocks.
Monday 17th
Another beautiful day - both our neighbours moved on and we had the campsite to ourselves for the day. Lots of cars came and went and Mal carried on with his drawings. Sue had a rest and then after lunch went out to photograph birds using her bird hide - she got some great shots of a perigine falcon - Mal went to the beach to draw. Ian and Chris turned up and camped next door - we had afternoon drinks with them and then the evening turned cold and we all scurried off to make tea and again have an early night.
Tuesday 18th
The weather has stayed fine and cool so Mal wandered down to the beach to have another go at his rock formations. This morning we went through Sue's bird photos and using Ian and Chris's bird book sorted out some identification issues. Today is our last day here so we are sorting out the loose ends before we have to pack up and go.
