Crows and roosters, give us the roosters any day - the crows at Musgrave are disgusting - if you culled about 200, there would still be a viable population - the owner could help by getting bins with lids that close properly and then cleaned up the rubbish straight away every morning. It ruins the campground which otherwise is quite nice and in a good location.
We filled with water and spoke briefly to another slid on owner - www.slideoncampers.com.au. Not our cup of tea - no real canvas, but you have to be outside for everything except sleeping.
We braved the onslaught of fast moving dust producers and finally made progress towards Lakefield NP - we did stop and photograph some ants nests - well termite mounds we are told. Magnetic - with the real spikey tops, bulborous for the spinafex termites and domed for another clan. All quite different from each other.
Well we did the creek into Sweetwater, the crossing of the creek was dry but fairly rough and twisting - once through that it was a sweet run to the campsite - only one in this campground.
Well the guy who had camped the night before was still in place so we went for a walk and found a much better site - not official but - so we walked back and moved Vicki -
Later on a chap in a 200 series Landcruiser came in and took some photos and then left and in the afternoon, Danny ran into camp - "well you don't look like very active campers" - "maybe creative campers" he had seen Mal with his water colours out. He had run the 2.5 k in to see if the camp site was good and left his wife with their small caravan out at the main road. He said see you in an hour or so - but we had not seen him when the sun went down.
Mal sat around under a tree and worked on the flower drawings he is doing and Sue processed her photos and took some more. It was late in the afternoon a rather large crock glided south down the lake. Mal thinks we saw him first - then he saw us and slowed and turned towards us and then lowered his profile - just nose and eyes showing - he looked at Mal's boney legs and screwed up his nose, he looked at Sue and licked his lips and then he saw her steely determination - changed his mind and upped periscope and sailed on out of sight.
As the sun went down and night dropped it's velvet curtain across the tropical stage set, we retired into Vicki, cooked tea and settled for the night.
Vicki is fantastic, showers fantastic, short set up, pack up times - oh the joy of camping out in Vicki.
