Well everyone packing, folding tents, on ladders pulling down roof top jobs, swags galore and on these mornings Vicki seems like a dream - breakfast, lower the roof, lock the door, turn off the gas and drive off.
Vicki the mobile eco resort - perfect.
The road South to Coen had its good bits and a few bad bits. Wre stopped occasionally as those millions of ants nests beckoned and called. They are amazing, all different in some way or another.
There is a quarantine road stop about 20k North of Coen - the chap was very friendly and able to provide some advice on the road to Port Stewart. We stopped outside Coen by the river for morning tea and sent some messages top Tahnee and Jo and then into town for some food and gas.
We drove down to the border of McIlwraith National Park and took our photos beside the sign. Sort of symbolic. We reckon we should have native title over the area as it has our name on it already.
Several motorbikes rode past heading North and three 4x4s drove past - apart from the water truck that was the only traffic we saw. The road was perfect - later we spoke with one of the drivers of the 4x4's and he had seen us at Sam's Creek - said nothing to see at Port Stuart - well we never went so we don't know.
The road down to Musgrave is pretty chopped up in places, so we were happy to arrive - after a long wait for diesel - the big truck in front was not planning on moving - we booked in to camp and set up in a good spot - it was about 3.30pm I think.
Not much later a couple turned up in a Range Rover and struggled to put up their tent - I guess they usually stay in a resort.
No phone reception here for mobiles - so we tried to use the pay phone - full of coin would not work - asked about a phone card - all sold out - mmmmmm - oh well.
Mal played the guitar and Sue cocked tea outside. Sandy from up the hill came down to show us all these C&W CD's she had recorded over the years - I think she wanted us to buy one - but she never asked directly and really it was not our cup of tea.
The midges were out so we came in side, watched the moon sail across the sky and listened to a couple of guys sitting around a campfire that never seemed to run out of wood. The night was just right temperature wise - and the night noises as varied as always up here.
