THURSDAY
There was some light rain in the morning as we nailed down some domestic duties. Gidge had caught the school bus back into Charleville and Cameron had tasks to do around the property. Bronk and another young man came over mid morning and we left as the boys were making themselves lunch. Bronk told us of a back road into Charleville where a Brolga had two eggs on a nest.
We found the Brolga and Nest but the bird flew off so Sue did not manage to get any great photos.
When we looped back around and recrossed the Warrego River we stopped for lunch where old trees haunted the river bank gnarled and twisted by the hardships of their lives, morose and speechless in spite of good rain and a dash of warm sunshine.
Back in Charleville we did a pit stop and headed North towards Augathella. We knew the rain was coming and Mal did not want to stop in an area which would become boggy or inundated by rain overnight.
An old bitumen road runs down to the river where the old bridge used to cross the Warrego River and we camped up for the night and slept well after a pleasant if exhausting visit to Sandford Park with Gidge and Cameron - must admit we tire easy.
