Today being our final day in Hobart, we thought we would take it easy. We find ourselves in definate holiday mode as none of us got up before 0830hrs - including Saffron.
The day is overcast and drizzly, so we are thankful we are staying close to base.
The drive to the Shot Tower was a nice drive along the coast, although, it was difficult to see the water through the trees and the mansions.... LOL
We were lucky that the rain/drizzle held off until after our climb. The challenge was to count how many steps there were to the top. With Saffron as chatty as she is, it was very easy to continually miscount.
Selwin made the executive decision to google the answer when we get to the top. Thankfully he did. The inside stair case was narrow, wooden and very creaky. By the time we got to the top, we were a bit breathless, but the view was once again breathtaking...... Oh, if you are ever asked there is exactly 259 stairs to the top. And then we had to go back down - admittedly, that was the easy part but for some reason, Saffron decided this was too much for her and she coerced her Daddy to carry her down. This child has so many ways of persuasion - she is good!
As a reward, we had a delicious Devonshire Tea in the tea rooms at the base of the tower. The young girl that was helping her Nana there was delightful and gave Saffron some colouring pencils and a picture of the Shot Tower to colour. As a thank you for being so nice, Saffron gave her picture (coloured in) back to the young girl.
No photos can do the view justice, no words can really describe it. But I will say one thing - there is NO WAY my father would venture out onto the ledge. It was less than 60cm wide (2').
I have said this a few times during this trip, but the pain in my knees and Selwin's back is so worth every bit.
Time for us to move on back into Hobart itself.
