We decided that as we are on holidays, that we did not have to rush to be anywhere at any set time. For this reason, it was after 0930hrs before we left the Cabin to head off to Launceston.
It was an easy drive on a gorgeous day. So different from Tuesday when we were exploring the maze. The sun was out and there was just a gentle breeze - enough to keep everyone comfortable.
Our first stop was Cataract Gorge. It is just 2km from the centre of Launceston in an extremely hilly section of town. The hills were literally 50 - 60 degrees gradient.... All we thought was if we lived there, we would definitely be fit and a lot skinnier than we are now!
As you walk into Cataract Gorge, you really are in awe of the breath-taking views. But once again, there is no flat ground here - it is all hills and dales.......
We opted to take the chairlift over the gorge first before tackling any of the hilly terrain - which although is hilly, the trails and paths are extremely well maintained and easy to walk on.
I wasn't sure how Saffron would go on the chairlift. I don't think I should have bothered worrying - once the lift operator settled her into her chair, Selwin's biggest problem was trying to keep her from looking too far over the rails. She loved it - took to it like an old pro.....
I was in the chair behind them with my bag and all the camera stuff... I hoped I got a few good photos - it's always difficult trying to take photos of the surrounds, whilst also trying to take it in myself and enjoy it.....
At the other end, we wandered through the "Fairy Garden", a beautifully lush, rain forest like area with an ampitheatre at one end. It was so magical and peaceful despite the number of people there. We even saw a wallaby amongst the ferns.....
Saffron wanted something to eat - shock, horror...... the kiosk had a wonderful selection of food and drinks. You even had extra company for free - the peacocks LOVE devonshire scones, chips, wedges, sandwiches and just about anything else that anyone bought and turned their backs on, even for a split second..... Saffron would rather not be in the company of said peacocks - she was a bit freaked out at how close they came.
After a visit to the abultions, we saw a wishing well - we gave Saffron a couple of coins to make a wish on the priviso that she does not tell us.... Well, that completely killed her - she struggled all day to keep her wishes secret and at one point, she wanted us to guess what her wishes were. Selwin and I are really bad at guessing her wishes, so they are still currently a secret...... LOL
The chairlift back was relaxing and enjoyable - Saffron more than happy to wave at me from the front chair yet again. There was a playground at the base of the lifts, so Saffron burnt off some energy for about 5 minutes. Then came the task of climbing the hill back to the car - OMG!! I sure felt my knees and Selwin's back carked it.
But on the upside, was we were off to BOAG's. Saffron was fabulous here. We went on a tour of the brewery for about 1 1/2 hrs and she didn't complain once. But there were more stairs than I thought possible on this day - once again.... OMG! my knees - I seriously need new ones!! As part of the tour, you had to wear a Hi-Vis jacket (Saffron's had "VIP Beer Lover" on the back), safety glasses and ear plugs. Saffron thought this was great - especially the ear plugs which she got to keep. She was the youngest on the tour by around 20yrs....... We're training her young!! The beer tasting at the end was interesting - even Saffron had a tasting.... of raspberry and apple mineral water....... ;-)
It was a pretty busy day and a lot of walking, but a great day. Saffron fell asleep on the way home, but woke in time to stop off at the Cherry Shed. We were hoping to either pick or get some fresh cherries, but alas, it isn't cherry season :-(
So back to the cabin we came, via BWS to pick up a slab of BOAG's Red....
