Being a Sunday, we decided to go for a casual drive in the country side. We travelled a whole 10 minutes before stopping at Richmond for morning tea. Richmond is a little town that is famous for having the oldest in use bridge (AD 1823). It was first explored in 1803 and is just 24 kms from Hobart.
Our first port of call was the maze. Maybe because we had the pleasure of seeing Tasmazia, this one was a little disappointing. The maze itself was good and Saffron had a ball. But it is in dire need of some real TLC. The staff were lovely and if Saffron could tell them what was in the middle of the 2 mazes, she would get a prize. We found them and Saffron got her prize - lollies...... Yippee, just what you need to give a naturally hyper child - more sugar.......
Then our next stop was at the Little Hobart Town. A miniture version of Hobart based back in the 1820's. There were heaps of buildings - roughly around 60 and hundreds of moulded and hand painted figurines depicting life in the day.
It was reallly quite interesting and you had to find 4 particular situations somewhere in the township. That kept Saffron and us amused for about 10mins.... LOL but it was really fastinating to see the difference between Hobart now and then.
The only thing I could say was a bit disappointing was listening to the lady behind the counter. It was pretty obvious that she had been doing this a looooooong time, as she was literally a broken record. The sadder part, was she had no real heart or apparent interest in what she was doing.....
After leaving the Miniture Town, we had a leisurely stroll along the main street. Richmond really is a beautiful town. All the buildings have Georgian village feel about them.
Of all things too find, we came across a shop wholly and solely for puzzles - kids and adults jigsaws - I was in heaven, but so was Saffron. As a treat, we purchased a couple of jigsaws, something I am looking forward to doing when we get home.
By this time roughly 1130hrs - morning tea was still waiting for us somewhere, so the general consensis was - stuff morning tea, lets have lunch instead.
Ma Foosie's really appealled to us so that was where we ate. Selwin opted for something healthly (Chicken Caesar Salad), I had a toasted sandwich and who would have thought that a cafe truly catered for kids? Ma Foosie's had fairy bread on the menu and Saffron was in heaven - they even cut the crusts off and made it into stars and bunnies for her. Guess who ate her first full meal since leaving Moonta???? LOL
As we continued our gentle stroll along the street after lunch, we came across a store called "Giraffic Park". A quaint little store that had some interesting items. Our favourite was the pair of giraffe's for sale. Pretty reasonably priced - $1200 for the set.... Admittedlly they were around 8' tall - the only reason we didn't get them, was where would we put Saffron in the car???
Upstairs there were 2 floors of Christmas everything..... And I mean everything!!! From what we were told, it is open all year round ready for Christmas. I'm not too sure if I would be in the Christmas spirit if I had to work in and listen to christmas carols everyday..... It would sort of take the joy and happiness out of it......
After this, Saffron had decided that her legs were getting very tired and needed a rest. So back to the car and off to our next port - Bonorong.
