Today we headed off to Hobart.... Devonport was wonderful, but we are looking forward to exploring Hobart and the surrounds......
We had to make pit stop at a quaint little road side bay, the Parramatta Creek Rest Area, to make some minor adjusments to Saffron's quality of viewing pleasure - ie we had to put the window sock on so she could watch her movie without any glare or getting hot.....
It was a beautiful little spot - very clean, free range chooks and a babbling brook running through it. We almost didn't want to leave - it had such a relaxing feel about it.
We drove on till we came to Evanadale - this was one place I wanted to check out. They have the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company - you could call it the Tasmanian version of Beerenberg. The difference is that it is not as commerecialised as Beerenberg, a bit dearer than Beerenberg, a lot further to travel than Beerenberg but as good, if not better than Beerenberg...... So of course, we bought a lot of stuff after tasting a lot of stuff..... My mouth still drools at the thought of the mustards and sauces....
We had hoped to go to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary on the way to Hobart, but, for the first time since leaving Ballarat, we encountered road works. Sadly, this put us behind our non-schedule by around 30mins.... Once we got back into the flow of traffic, Saffon decided that she needed the bathroom and the closest one was nearly 30km away. We were very fortunate, that she managed to talk her bodily actions back into her tummy and she didn't need to go by the time we got to the Richmond turn off.
When we arrived at our destination - Discovery Holiday Park Hobart (Risdon Vale) - not too far from the prison - we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our accomodation. It is spacious and roomy - Selwin doesn't have to become a contortionist to fit into the shower and we have a washer and dryer in our bathroom. Downside, we had to for go a bath for the laundry but that's a small price...... And our first load of washing was in before we had finished unpacking the car.....
It was after 1pm when we decided to head into Hobart just to get a feel for the place and to find something for lunch. Selwin parked on the Waterfront and we looked for a place to eat. How fortuitous that he parked directly opposite an Indian Restaurant - our favourite - that was called, "The Saffron". It made our day - how cool - we travel over 1800km to find a restaurant named for our gorgeous girl. The staff were wonderful, we rocked up 1/2hr before the kitchen closed and they could not have been more accomdating for us. I had the Butter Chicken - yes, I know it's my standard, but I find that it's a good way to base restaurants I haven't tried before. It was succulent and bursting with flavours leaving a pleasant tingling sensation after. What was more appealing for us, was their glasses have "The Saffron" etched onto them. The owners were more than happy for us to have a couple of glasses. That alone has made our trip to Tassie very unique.
After lunch, we had a wander around Salamanca Place to get an idea of what the markets will be like tomorrow. There was a "Faeries" shop that of course was Saffron's delight. We plan on going back there tomorrow when the markets are in full bloom - that experience is going to be amazing.
There was a couple of little hiccups with the GPS taking us god-only knows what way, before we made it to Eastlands shopping centre, where we stocked up on supplies.
Most importantly, we got our BOAG's Red...... Saffron has settled for the night, I'm enjoying a glass of wine in my "Saffron" glass and Selwin is relaxing with a Red (Boag's that is)....
We are looking forward to our adventure tomorrow after a well earned sleep tonight.
