Once we were settled and unpacked into the cabin, it was time to decide how to spend our day..... or what was left of it!!
We came to the decision that we didn't want to go too far from base - so off to the Latrobe region we went.
Our first stop was House of Anver's Chocolate Factory....... OMG!!!! Their fudges are to die for.............. Seriously, I have been to a few chocolate factories, and this place is exceptional..... So fudges were bought............
A short drive further along, we found the "Axeman's Hall of Fame". This is a place that is dedicated to all the wood choppers from Tassie. Really interesting place - you can see all, and I mean ALL the trophies and ribbons these guys have won. Some go back as far as the late 1800 early 1900's. It is almost surreal looking at these ancient tools that were use then.
We met a gentleman who works the front desk. He was telling us about the platypus and where to see them locally in the wild. He also let Saffron hold a real one that had be "freezed dried". It's fur was so soft, it almost felt like patting a kitten - without the claws/scratching or hissing.....
He also told us about a house on the main street in Latrobe that is quite unusual. Oh my, he was right. The house is called "Reliquaire". It is a house of 26 or so rooms that are full of oddities eccentricites, life size dolls, halloween costumes, sci-fi stuff, disney items - the old disney stuff, even a room totally dedicated to door k*** and handles. I found something that I have wanted for such a long time - a barometer. There was one I could hve gotten in Moonta, but it was very unkempt and not working - where this one is immaculate - I got it!! Looking forward to putting it up at home.
Heading back into Devonport, Saffron fell asleep. I cannot say I blame her - it had been a busy day and we were all b*****ed.
It was nice to get back to the cabin have dinner, a spa, glass of wine and just let the tiredness of the day overtake us.
Sleep was bliss.................
