Soongies' Great Adventure
We got up early this morning ready for the 5.5 hour journey to Croatia - 5.5 hours doesn't seem long for Aussie standards but it is for European standards.
We stopped a couple of hours into the journey to get our vignette to drive in Slovenia as the journey from Italy to Croatia also went through Slovenia for a bit. A fine for no vignette is €150 so we were onto it.
As we were driving, we munched on our delicious takeaway pizza from the night before for lunch! The scenery going through Slovenia was beautiful. We'll definitely be back in a week!
When we reached the Slovenia - Croatia border, we held up a whole line of traffic behind us! The officer spent ages flicking through and then flicking through again the pages in our passport. Importantly we got an exit stamp in our passports (sometimes they don't bother) which was really important as it showed we left the Schengen zone (as you are only allowed 3 months in the Schengen zone and we will probably using every possible day)! That was the exiting Slovenia part done!
We then had to drive 1 metre to do the entering Croatia part - eventually we got a stamp here to show we were entering a non-Schengen zone. But we got a few questions asked such as 'where are you going?' which Kate replied 'Croatia' and then realised that was a bit of a stupid answer as clearly we were going to Croatia so then she said 'and after Croatia we are going up north a bit'. Luckily Calvin was there to save the day and said which town we were actually staying in!
We eventually arrived at our accommodation - a lovely apartment in the Croatian countryside. We then drove the short distance to the supermarket to get some supplies for dinner. Calvin made his delicious rice porridge and Kenyan cabbage before an evening of relaxing.
