Manly Blog 14 - Last but not leastMy last blog from Manly:I'll be leaving in 4 days!! The war of the roses from the Sydney Theatre Company was really good. I especially liked the beautiful images. They started out with a plain stage, all the actors there and golden thingies coming out of the ceiling for about the first hour! The plot was pretty violent: I've never seen so many people dying on stage. And I have to say that I had difficulties following the plot in the beginning, because of the Shakespearian language. That wasn't only me though: the two ladies sitting next to me (Australian) had the same problem. The play was divides into 2 session of 4 hours with a 20 minute break in between. Between the 2 sessions, there was a 2 hour break. I went for a little bike ride on the rocks with my new-bought camera. Quite happy with it: twice as much zoom as my old one and the pictures al alright so far. It's a canon power shot A 2000 IS and is was half the price of my old camera (which I bought 3,5 years ago). Anyway, it felt good, being in a theatre again, it felt like home… I really miss de Appel and het Nationale Toneel… (see pictures of the cast on my blog: Cate Blanchet is 4th from the left)I've been working a lot the last couple of weeks and didn't do to many special things. I did go to the Sydney Aquarium 1,5 weeks ago with Alex, who had kind of a day of: he's going to make some money by testing drugs/ medication. He had to go to Sydney hospital where he got a heart machine that he had to wear all day (not allowed any big exercise) to make sure his hart beat was regular so he could do this testing. His roomies are doing the same: Junior and Carwin. Easy was to make some money, but nobody knows what the side -or after effect are…Well, I had a little surf in the morning and then went to Sydney to meet up with him and we went straight to the aquarium, which was really cool!! It's pretty scary to realize that there are so many big fish in the ocean and the sharks aren't the nicest looking creatures on the planet, but well, I don't eat fish, so they won't eat me, right?!!The fish in the pictures are actually 1/3 times bigger in real: they look 'smaller' because of the glass… they look yet big enough for me!We walked around for like 2,5 hours and went for some food and a drink in Darling Harbour afterwards. I was really happy btw with the aquarium-mode on my camera! As we took the ferry back to Manly, there was a piano on board. It's a project that's part of the Sydney festival. There are like 30 piano's all around Sydney for anyone to play on. I gave it a try… hadn't been playing in 3 months? Too bad the piano was rubbish and out of tune.. and I was quite rubbish too I have to say… A lot of work to do when I get back in NL…Last week I surfed every day… Last Wednesday even 3 times!! Only the third time there was a thunderstorm and I went out as the lightning frightened me. Hypes of surfers stayed in, something I really didn't understand. Gary told me the next day that he had a frightened being struck by lightening in the ocean and the guy is a vegetable right now.. scary… Last week I've surfed Curl Curl with Robbie, my friend from yoga. It was really nice to surf another spot then Manly and the waves were nice! Last Sunday Robbie took me to a short film festival at Bondi Beach called Flickerfest. We saw 6 ofthe winning short films. It was really great: the films (and award ceremonie) were shown outside in an arena and we all got a blanket to protect ourselves from the cold wind. It felt a bit like seeing a play in het Amsterdamse bos theater. Although the trees were missing. The films were overall a bit sad, but really good!! Another cultural event that reminded me of home and of the fact that I really miss that here. There are some pictures on my blog showing my 'new' home. I'm hardly ever there, but it's a really nice place. I'll definitely miss the sofa, which is very comfy (comfortable). Btw, I booked all my flights now: To New Zealand, from the Southern Island to Brisbane and my flight from New York - Reykjavík - Amsterdam, where I will arrive on Saturday, the 15th of august… that's in less then 7 months… I also hired a car for my trip down south. A small one, just what I'm used too ;-) Dani, a colleague of mine, gave me a small tent, which is great, because sleeping in a tent might be more comfy than sleeping in a car. Gary gave me an extra, bigger board bag, so my board will survive the flights ( I hope). Some more breaking news:-I bought a stay-on-when-surfing bikini, that really stays on when you surf! -Had my last yoga-for-surfers-class yesterday and from now on I have to practice that by myself, which is going to be a big challenge-They've also got 'boer zoekt vrouw' in Australia (will start in February)-It's too hot lately: 35 degrees or more…-3 more shifts at jellyfish (see pictures) and that's it…-Australia day on Mondayxxxxx
