This morning I was supposed to go surfing with Gary, but he called it off, since the waves weren't good enough. Well, after a really nice weekend full of activities I didn't really mind not having to get up at 6 am… Last Friday a good friend of mine, Lucien, wrote me an email that he would be in Sydney for the weekend, so he came to Manly Saturday afternoon. In the morning I watched the Beachley Classic (part of the ASP Women World Tour) again. The current world champion, Stephanie Gilmore was kicked out of the competition by 14 year old Tyler Wright. Laney Beachley won her heat, so 'Manly' was very proud. The quarter finals were to be held on Sunday, so I decided to go for a surf myself. I borrowed Janeys 7'10 and had a really good time. When I got out of the water I was right on time to get Lucien from the ferry. As the waves were only getting smaller, we decided to do some coffee and we had a stroll along the beach. Lucien was very keen on being able to say that he surfed Sydney, so he booked a backpackers. That way, we could have an early morning surf together. We had some ice-cream and diner and we chilled in the hostel (one that is cheaper and bigger then the one I was in, so I might be moving there next week). The next morning Lucien picked me up and he borrowed my board (I borrowed Janeys again) so we could have a surf. The waves weren't amazing, but it was fun being out there. After the surf I had to check out this room, but it was too expensive for what you were getting. Talking about a huisjesmelker. After that, I brought Lucien to the ferry and picked up Kaz, Fernande, Marine and some other girls. In the end we were with like 12 people? Anyway, we had a lovely day on the beach with a little bit of surf and lots of sun. In the evening they planned to go to Hugo's in Sydney. On Sunday night you can get a cheap pizza and cheap drinks. They took the ferry home and Iwas going to join them after a nice shower. So I took a ferry later and cycled to their apartment. We walked to Hugo's and had a really nice evening.I took the last ferry back: at 11pm! And as Rob was steering the ferry, I had again the lovelyView from the captains cabin and a nice chat with Rob! He told me he could get me some tickets to watch the fireworks on New Years Eve, from the Ferry… well, that would be amazing!
Today I watched the quarter finals, the semi finals and the finals of the Beachley Classic and it was Taylor Wright, the 14-yrs old, that won the competition! Laney Beachley was out in the quarter finals, Sofia Mulanovich sprained her foot in the semi finals, so the finals was between Taylor Wright and Silvana Lima.It was really cool to be able to see all the girls surf in real life.
