Today started off early with the two of us going to get the car from the Perth road. First mistake the company made was letting Lindsay and I have the car, she drives an automatic and this car for some reason had a bit which looked like it was in drive but it wasn't so we're cruising along in 1st gear ruining the engine for a couple of Km before we realised and then got it right! Whoops...no comments on this as I wasn't driving!
First stop was at the Whale Museum, formerly the Albany whaling Station it was the last one to close in Western Australia back in the 1970's. I will admit this is not really my thing and I did find it a little bit boring but Lindsay wanted to go there so we went and took the tour round. There are quite some graphic pictures of Whales being cut open and sound bytes of the tools they used to do it etc in the museum. Didn't seem to bother anyone though. The museum is very well constructed and also houses one of the last whaling boats the Cheynes 2. There were 4 of them I believe but due to random circumstances they either got sold, sank or are located elsewhere this is the only one that has been restored. I had some fun pretending to be the Captain of the boat ordering people around from the bridge...childish I know *laugh*.
We then went and took a nature walk, described as 'walk on the wild side' it mainly consisted of a small animal area where I got to see my first Koala! He was so cute, sleeping there on the little tree! For some reason I thought they would be smaller. He didn't seem bothered by us and carried on sleeping whilst we were up close looking at him. Must be used to tourists by now!
Afterwards we took a trip across to the Natural Bridge and The Gap. There was a railed off area for people to view the gap but of course that didn't stop my usual self from climbing down the rocks and leaning right over to see the waves crash against the coastline. Scared Lindsay a bit, she kept thinking that any minute now a gust of wind would blow me off the rocks into the water! Shouldn't laugh really, there are warning signs to this effect. The Natural bridge was nice, I managed to get a photo of a small rainbow coming off of the bridge when the water came through. It was another lovely sunny day but yet again windy so we went over to Emu Point to the Emu Point cafe for some tea. Clotted cream tea! Very English yet again!
Tonight we took in dinner in a little place called the Squid Shack, which of course their speciality was Squid. I had the fish and something didn't agree with me because I was sick not long afterwards, oh well, early night it is!
The photo is of the Natural Bridge.
