This morning I finally got up early enough to go to Fremantle for the day, I had been saying it for over a week and today is going to be the last of the hot weather for another stint! Paul decided last night that he would come with me today and you should have seen his face when I said I would be up at 9 am! The train to Fremantle was a little busy as it was the last day of the Perth Royal Show at the Showgrounds. The guy in the ticket office was very helpful he helped us save money on our tickets but it meant coming and going together and I was already feeling unwell from breakfast this morning.
Arriving in Fremantle we took a walk down Market Street and I was in awe at some of the architecture here. Obviously it has been given a lick of paint since it's been built and I suspect that not all of it is old but more built in that style but it was still nice just to walk around the streets for a while. We went into the Roundhouse, this was a place for punishing people who committed crimes back in the 1800's. It's free but you give a donation of a Dollar (so not really free lol). There are some really nice tour guides in there who will tell you all about how it was used and some of the history behind it all. You even get to take a little card (the size of a beer mat) with a crime and jail term written on it. I had one for a guy who stole 10 gallons of rum...now how on earth he thought he would get away with it I'm not sure!
We then went through the Whaling tunnel down to the harbour and I saw my first little jellyfish! Cute like things, about the size of my tiny palm...cute to look at...if I was in the water I'd be moving away sharpish!
I'd grabbed a map earlier and we decided to go on a brewery tour but Paul wanted lunch first so we headed up to the Fremantle markets. I was in heaven! Loads of little stalls and unique food stalls, only a shame that I couldn't buy anything as it would go horrible in my bag before I got back. Paul however not so open minded about food! After walking round the entire place we ended up in a Hungry Jacks for lunch. Hungry Jacks is a burger place similar to Burger King but much cheaper, they do meals for $5 which included burger, chips, drink and ice cream. WAY too much food for me! Being 'Mr Free' I decided we should take a walk to the chocolate factory across town which is about 15 roads away but he seemed happy to walk there. I laughed my head off when we got there, as it was closed down with some white wash paint over the signs. He didn't believe me for about 5 minutes and you should have seen his face lol.
We walked back and got too tired to go to the Brewery (will save that for Margaret River region) and jumped the train to North Fremantle to go to the beach there since the weather was still lovely. Not the best beach I have seen but definitely not the worst. The sand was really fine and the water, although cold, nice and blue. We chilled out there for a bit before heading back to Perth.
Tonight saw Paul, Teresa and I head down to The Swan Barracks to watch some football. Unlike me I know...what's even weirder if none of us actually supported either team playing! One beer later and I was tired and Teresa looked like she'd be needing matches to keep her eyes open so we sacked it and went back. We watched 2 movies tonight and it got so late. Struggling to sleep at the moment due to some noisy people in our room, sleeping in late and then staying up late shouting when we're trying to sleep. Feel bad for Teresa more than anyone, she has to get up for a double shift at work tomorrow starting at 6 am.
The picture if of the Fremantle Markets building.
