Sunday 19th August
We left Carnarvon and headed for Point Samson which meant staying at various free camps along the way.
We can't get over how much caravan parks have increased their prices the price to stay at the caravan park at Point Samson was $49 per night, The winds were very strong for most of the time. We thought we might treat ourselves to fish and chips on our first night $25 for three small pieces of fish and some chips (we only dined there once). So very different to Carnarvon fish and chips. $9.00 each for a serve of the biggest piece of fish and more chips than one person could eat.
Paddy the irish entertainer at point Samson was good fun and we all had a great late afternoon of entertainment and a good laugh at his irish humour and jokes.
Point Samson was a good place to get some shopping and do some laundry in the twin tub. We also visited the old mining town of Cossack. One of the oldest towns (or what is left of it) in WA and the first port. Not much left now except some ruins and a couple of restored buildings with a small museum in one street and accommodation in another. We stopped at a viewing point on the way back from Cossack to watch the tide turn.at a big inlet where there were lots of people fishing. The viewing point is on the side of the road and the water flows under the road. It was like a raging torrent high tide here is 6 metres. (See the video)
Today we are at Fitzroy Crossing for two nights $45 per night. We got all set up when the groundsman came and said he was ever so sorry but we needed to move as the girls in the office had made a mistake and a huge charity group was coming in and needed to be together and we were in the middle of it. He helped us move to a much better site so in the finish having to move turned out to be a good thing.
We move on, on Tuesday to free camp for three nights before we get to Lake Argyle, Kununurra.
