Day 7
We had decided to go for a walk before breakfast today so we headed down the beach to the walking track that goes over the hill towards the Centara Resort. Unfortunately this involves crossing the creek which could best be described as 'black water' . I suspect that most of the sewerage from the beachside resorts ends up in this creek which empties into the sea at the end of the beach. The smell is not too good but the flow was low and we were able to cross at the sand where it spreads out and without getting our feet wet. There is actually a bridge but we didn't discover that until the return trip. The path over the hill is wooden steps with a bamboo handrail. It is actually quite solid and the main worry is the electrical connections to the many lights that follow the track. Lots of joints simply insulated with electrical tape. The Centara Resort is on the beach on the other side of the hill. There doesn't seem to be road access but there is a long jetty so accessible but boat.
Made it back to breakfast without electrocution and then booked a few trips for the week ahead. The first one being a sunset cruise in the afternoon, so fronted up to the lobby at 2:00 for our pickup. Nice minibus ride to Krabi Marina where we joined the boat, a barge like vessel, for our cruise. The staff were lovely and we had fruits and Thai sweets as a starter with a barbq to come later. We motored back towards Ao Nang then out to some nearby islands where we went snorkling. This was so much better than Hong Island! Lots of coral and heaps of fish. One of the chaps from the boat showed us some clown fish and some bright blue coral. Spent about an hour there before heading to another couple of islands, without disembarking, then back to Krabi with the barbq en route. There were a lot of Chinese on the boat and when the food came out it was a feeding frenzy! They pushed and shoved and wouldn't queue at all. We just sat back and patiently waited until they all left and then took our turn. The Thai people told us they are like this all the time! The Thai are so different from the Chinese in a lovely way! Lisa ended up getting her thongs mixed up with someone else's as we were boarding the busses back and the Thai staff went from bus to bus and eventually found her thongs that someone else had mistakenly picked up! Full marks for great service! A tropical thunderstorm once we got back with lightning every 10 seconds or so and bucketing with rain. Looks like tonight's Thai Boxing might be cancelled!

Chris & Sue Glad you finally got to do some decent snorkelling! Love your story about the feeding frenzy. Bianca and Daniel stayed at the Centara and it is very up market! Keep having fun and Happy Easter!
