Thought we’d go for a bike ride to the nearby lookout this morning. Not much traffic so Lisa rode on the road, something she is usually reluctant to do! We arrived unscathed at the lookout, which had only recently been opened, and enjoyed the view over the town. Rode back to the showgrounds via the middle of the town (which was pretty much all of it)and poked around in a few shops before heading out of town, caravan in tow, to Lake Elphinstone via Glenden, a coal miner accomodation town it would seem. Glenden was very neat but eerily almost deserted, like a plague had wiped out all humans but left all the buildings standing. We drove on, looking for signs of life and eventually settled at the local park for lunch. About 25 kms to Lake Elphinstone from Glenden which was a large free campsite with quite a few campers but it was easy to get a spot far away from the nearest other caravan. There was also a nice toilet block and rubbish bins. We had a campfire and a herd of cows wandered through at about 8:00pm, munching the grass as they went.
