It was difficult to find anywhere that hired bikes in the area but eventually one in Hove had bikes, maps etc for a trip up to the South Downs Way to spend the day mountain biking. First stop was Devil's Dyke. This is a large V shaped valley which has origins back 2000 years. A thunderstorm appeared about midday so we took refuge at a small 12th century church. We didn't realize before we ate our picnic lunch that there was a kitchen at the back of the church with tea/coffee facilities, a sink and toilets. All run by the women of the church and an honor system for donations if the facilities are used. Completely unmanned but no sign of vandalism and very clean. Once it cleared we continued on, eventually making our way back to Hove in time drop off the bikes. We had fish and chips on the Worthing Pier for dinner.
