So for the next day of our multiple city per day Italian tour, Milan is up for lunch. Neither Sean or I really had much desire to see Milan because it's really just another big city and it's main attraction is the fact that it's the fashion capital of the world, which I couldn't care less about. But Milan is also home to one of the world's greatest cathedrals, in fact the Duomo in Milan is the third biggest church in the world. So as soon as we arrived to the Milan train station, we took a metro straight to the Duomo. The main square was very big and the Duomo indeed a towering spectacle. It probably has more gothic towers than any other church we've seen with maybe the exception of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. This church has countless spires, the detail was amazing for such a large structure. The Duomo is one of my favorite churches to look at from the outside, but the inside wasn't much different than the rest of the huge cathedrals. We also saw the Castello Sforzesco which was built as a defensive castle to defend the city in the 14th century. It's full of museums but for both time and money reasons we just walked through the courtyards and viewed the outside of the castle. And that's all we did in Milan, saw the two main sights, both of which were worth the trip, and then left. Now, unlike the other Italian cities we've visited, this is a city I didn't want to stay longer. I've seen enough of Milan, it doesn't seem very appealing to backpackers and particularly not Sean or I since we can live without huge Prada sunglasses. But that's the beauty of Eurail passes, we can get to a city like Milan by train for free, see the Duomo, then leave. Now we train to Bologna for dinner.
