So Copenhagen wasnt quite what we expected, and not in a good way. It was a very normal big city and really wasnt that exciting. It is a nice city and had a lot of pedestrian walkways and some nice paths along the lake, but there just wasnt anything that really stuck out. One thing about Copenhagen that is different, everybody rides bikes, their bike lanes are as big as the streets. Ive never seen so many bikes in my life. Everywhere you go theres more bikes than cars. Something that I liked about Copenhagen is that the language is very different from anything weve encountered and its the first time we have had any problems communicating (other than France but that was just them being stubborn). I expected to have more difficulty in Europe with the language barrier, but not so, everybody speaks English. So in a way it was nice to finally go to a city and feel like a tourist that can barely communicate with some people. Another interesting thing we visited in Copenhagen was a small village on the outskirts that is basically a free society that broke off from Denmark, I believe its called Christianson or something down those lines. Anyway, its basically a hippy village that was started by a group that moved into an abandoned building, apparently the state allowed it as somewhat of a social experiement to observe how the community existed. It almost seems like something in the movie The Beach but without the tropical setting and much trashier. It was worth seeing and was interesting but there wasnt much to do there.
By the way, on our train ride from Hamburg to Copenhagen our train actually drove onto a ferry and part of our trip was on a boat, if you look at a map and draw a straight line between the two cities thats basically our route. It was really weird for a whole train to be on a boat. There were also lots of trucks and cars and other people on the boat in addition to the train, basically like a small cruise boat.
