Now to our dinner town of Bologna, which is known for it's bolognese sauce and ragu (not the brand of American pasta suace, but the type of pasta sauce called ragu), or in other words meat sauce. Bologna isn't really on the top of many tourist lists, it's more of a college town. Nevertheless, Bologna offered some nice plazas, palaces, and cathedrals. And the streets were fun to walk through at night. Bologna also has a leaning tower of it's own, like Pisa. Not very spectacular, but surprising it's still standing and hasn't fallen onto the cathedral next to it. But like Milan, neither Sean or I really had much of a desire to see Bologna, we just wanted to try the often imitated bolognese sauce. So we did our best to find a place to eat after we discovered all of our books' recommended restaurants were closed. By the way, we were trying to eat at six so that we could leave the city that night by train, but most Italians don't eat till eight or later so almost all of the restaurants were closed. Eventually we found a restaurant that was open and both ordered pasta with meat sauce. I ordered tortellini with ragu, and it turns out that their meat sauce is really just meat, there's not really a tomato base involved, which I didn't have a problem with, I'm just saying. So we had our dining experience in Bologna, saw as much of the city as we could in about four hours, and left for our hostel in Florence. That was enough of Bologna for me, there are other cities I'd much rather visit with the time constraints we have right now.
